Skills Challenge

Message from the 2022 AME Skills Challenge Chairperson

The 2022 Skills Challenge was a very exciting event that showcased the talents of ten teams from across Canada. This year we were fortunate to have three teams representing our Canadian Military which was super cool. We had a record number of skills events, where teams were tested on everything from rotary-wing, composite repair, electrical troubleshooting, sheetmetal, borescope, NDT, inspection, lockwire, brake change, wheel change, and CARs.

Although this was a competition where teams really did try to compete and place as high as possible, the emphasis is on having fun. Having an opportunity to come together and participate in a friendly rivalry as fellow AME's, students and technicians was a fantastic experience.

The Third-place team who went home with $500.00 in prize money was the talented team from Chartright.

Second place went to Team Air Canada #2, who took home $1000.00.

The overall winner of the 2022 AME association of Ontario Skills Competition went to RCAF Team #3. For their efforts they shared $2000.00 among the four team members.

A massive thank you to our sponsors, Skyservice and Westjet. Without their financial support this competition would not be possible. We would also like to Thank Snap On as they provided most of the tools for the competition as well as a load of prizes for the students competing in the competition.

We would also like to thank the following companies that supported each individual event. ACT, Bell Helicopters, Hope Aero, Mid Canada Mod Center, VMO Aerospace and Air Canada.

A special thanks to FlighPath International, who generously donated a seat on the Type Rating Maintenance-Type Course. This prize was awarded to Hitesh Sharma (who was at that time a student in the Aerospace Program at Centennial College). Congratulations to Hitesh, who will start his career with an endorsement, which he will arrange with FlightPath.

For all the volunteers and people that helped make this event a success we truly thank you for your efforts.

We look forward to next year's event to be held at the Annual Ontario Aircraft Maintenance Conference next November, 2023.

Cheers,
